Tar Heels hold off Stanford to claim program's 21st NCAA championship
Posted Dec 7, 2009
Neither snow on Friday nor rain on Sunday could keep the North Carolina women's soccer team from delivering a 20th NCAA national championship with a 1-0 victory over Stanford at the Aggie Soccer Stadium. In 47-degree weather and a light rain, a crowd of 8,536 saw North Carolina forward Jessica McDonald score her ninth goal of the season 2 minutes, 50 seconds into the game.
