Bethel: UNC's Lack of Institutional Control Not an Athletics-Driven Scandal

As expected, the NCAA has accused UNC of lacking institutional control. Anyone surprised by that allegation has not been paying careful enough attention. However, contrary to the news media’s narrative, UNC’s lack of institutional control (LOIC) was not the result of a corrupt Athletics department. Rather, UNC’s LOIC was the result of a complacent Arts & Sciences (A&S) administration.
