There were the legendary coaches, like Everett Case, who came from Indiana to NC State, and was instrumental in creating the tournament (1954)...and Frank McGuire, hired from St. John’s by UNC to combat the dominance of State...and Wake Forest’s Bones McKinney, an ordained Baptist preacher who would make any all-world list of characters.
