UNC professor and world (and space) traveler Jim Kitchen explores the deepest point on Earth

UNC professor Jim Kitchen has had a busy year. In March, Kitchen boarded a Blue Origin flight and headed to space. His latest adventure took him in the opposite direction. Kitchen has just returned from a trip to the Mariana Trench, near Guam. It's the deepest oceanic trench on Earth. "When everyone was watching fireworks, I was heading into the abyss." (WRAL.com)
