Tar Heels nip Terps to win NCAA field-hockey title
Posted Nov 23, 2009
North Carolina won its sixth NCAA field-hockey championship yesterday, coming from behind late to upset No. 1 Maryland 3-2 at Kentner Stadium. The Tar Heels scored all of their goals in the last 10 minutes, and Danielle Forword hit the winning shot with 11 seconds left. "In a national-championship game, you've got to dare to be brilliant," coach Karen Shelton said. "You've got to risk. We did it, and it paid off. I'm delighted."
