In Matt Harvey, Mets draft a great arm that needs plenty of work
Posted Jun 8, 2010
With a farm system starved for potential high-end starting pitching, the Mets drafted N.C. Tar Heels ace Matt Harvey with the seventh overall pick of last night's amateur draft. My first reaction? Eh. Harvey hardly won over experts, ranked 13th in the draft by Baseball America and 20th by ESPN.com. And his lack of a breaking ball makes some think he's destined for the bullpen -- not too exciting for a pick this high.
