Former local baseball standout Dustin Ackley, second baseman for the Seattle Mariners, bats during a game against the Atlanta Braves at Safeco Field in Seattle last June. On March 22, 30 Seattle Mariners players boarded a charter flight for Tokyo for its first Japan Opening Series appearance. One of those Mariners players was Walnut Cove native Dustin Ackley.
