Don't pin scandal in Chapel Hill on Butch Davis

With the online release of Julius Peppers' North Carolina transcript from 2001 that shows he took bogus courses and remained eligible to play football with a sub-2.0 GPA, the academic scandal at UNC grows to systemic proportions. Before, it might have been easy and convenient to blame the fraudulent environment on former coach Butch Davis. But Davis wasn't hired until 2007.
