Zac Gallen struck out 11 in 7.2 innings and Hansen Butler picked up his first career save as No. 16 North Carolina opened the 2016 season with a 4-0 win over No. 9 UCLA Friday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Brandon Riley had two hits and drove in two in his debut for the Tar Heels, who shut out an opponent on Opening Day for the fourth time since 2005.
