Fred Barakat To Retire From Atlantic Coast Conference

Fred Barakat will retire as associate commissioner for men's basketball at the end of the 2006-07 academic year, ACC Commissioner John Swofford said Thursday. Barakat came to the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1981 as coordinator of basketball officials and during his career oversaw development of officials and scheduling of the men's college basketball package. He also was manager of the ACC men's basketball tournament for the past 16 years.
