For Doherty, Fla. Atlantic is right place at right time

Matt Doherty landed the FAU job almost by accident. After former coach Sidney Green was fired following his third straight losing season, Doherty called AD Craig Angelos to recommend Rex Walters, a former assistant at Kansas. The more Doherty heard, the more interested he became. After getting the OK from Walters - whom he later hired as an assistant - he began to pursue the job aggressively.
