When UNC basketball coach Bill Guthridge decided to join his mentor Dean Smith in retirement, all eyes quickly turned to Lawrence, Kansas as former Smith assistant and successful Jayhawk coach Roy Williams was expected to take over. Only it wasn’t to be. So what if Roy Williams had said his tearful goodbye to Kansas then instead of three years later?
