North Carolina vs. Oregon Holiday Bowl Postgame Notes

North Carolina Football lost a heartbreaker to the No. 15 Oregon Ducks at the Holiday Bowl on Wednesday night in San Diego. Here are notes and stats from the Tar Heels' final game of the season. Game Captains: Obi Egbuna, Power Echols, Corey Gaynor, Cedric Gray, Drake Maye. North Carolina finishes the season with an overall record of 9-5.
- The Tar Heels fall to 15-22 all-time in bowl games, losing their third straight.
- UNC is 0-4 all-time in bowl games against PAC-12 opponents.
- Carolina went 1-4 against ranked opponents this season.
- The Tar Heels finished the year 6-3 in games decided by one possession (seven points or fewer).
Drake Maye finishes record-breaking season
- Maye finished the 2022 season with a UNC single-season record 4,321 yards passing and became the sixth player in ACC history with more than 4,300 yards through the air.
- He threw three touchdown passes to tie the Carolina bowl record for touchdown passes along with five other players.
- Maye recorded his seventh game of the season with three or more touchdown passes. He had five touchdown passes in three games (FAMU, Notre Dame, Pitt) and four in another game (Appalachian State).
- Maye became the fifth quarterback in ACC history with over 5,000 yards of total offense for a single season finishing with 5,019 yards.
- Maye threw for over 200 yards in all 14 games this season.
Linebacker Cedric Gray makes plays
- Gray finished with a game-high eight tackles to bring his season total to 145, the most in a single season by a Tar Heel since Dexter Reid had 166 in 2002. He finished two tackles shy of 10th place on the UNC single season charts.
- It was the 11th time this season Gray registered eight or more tackles in a game.
Individual Notes
- With his first quarter touchdown reception, freshman Andre Greene, Jr. became the 12th different Tar Heel to have a touchdown catch this season.
- Linebacker Power Echols collected his first interception of the season and second of his career in the second quarter. He also had an interception against Georgia State last season. Echols made five tackles to bring his season total to 103. He joins Gray as the only Tar Heels with over 100 tackles this season.
- Tight end John Copenhaver tied his career-high for receptions with three. He also had three earlier this season against Pitt.
- Kobe Paysour's seven receptions were his most since catching eight passes against Appalachian State earlier this season. His 98 yards receiving were a career high.
- Marcus Allen made eight tackles in the game, matching his season total entering the game.
