UNC Football vs. Miami Postgame Notes

This is UNC’s first 6-0 start since 1997 and second since 1983. UNC has four TD drives of 90+ yards the last three games. This is the second time ever and first since 1914 UNC has scored 30+ points the first six games. UNC limited Miami to 3 of 11 on third down (27%). UNC was allowing third-down conversions on only 37% entering the game.
• Carolina improves to 6-0, while Miami drops to 5-2. The Tar Heels are 3-0 in ACC play for the second year in a row.
• The Tar Heels are 4-0 at home this season.
• Mack Brown is 280-144-1, including 105-68-1 in 15 seasons as head coach of the Tar Heels.
• Carolina is 16-11 versus Miami. Mack Brown improves to 5-0 against the Hurricanes.
• Carolina's five-game win streak against Miami is the Tar Heels' longest active win streak against an ACC opponent. The second-longest is four straight vs. Duke.
• Carolina is 4-0 against Miami as a ranked team.
• The Tar Heels are 56-22 as a ranked team in 15 seasons under Brown.
• This was only the second time that UNC and Miami have played while both were ranked. The first occurred in 2020 when No. 17 UNC beat No. 10 Miami, 62-26.
• This was the sixth time in as many games this season the Tar Heels scored 30 or more points. UNC has scored 30 or more in 10 of its last 14 games.
• This was the fourth time this season UNC scored at least 40 points and the 22nd time since Mack Brown returned to Chapel Hill in 2019.
• The Tar Heels improve to 293-32 when they score over 30 points and 151-6 when they score over 40. Under Mack Brown, the Tar Heels are 45-0 when they score 40 or more points and 69-7 when they score 30 or more points.
• Carolina has scored 30 times in 34 drives in the red zone this season. The Tar Heels have scored 20 TDs and made 10 field goals when advancing into the red zone.
• This was the 22nd time the Tar Heels have scored 40 or more points since Brown returned to UNC in 2019. It was the 25th time since Brown returned UNC gained 500 or more yards.
• Carolina gained 508 yards. It was the second straight game the Tar Heels gained 500 or more yards. The Tar Heels have won the last 11 times they gained 500 or more yards and 14 in a row when gaining at least 400 yards.
• Since Brown's return in 2019, Tar Heel quarterbacks have thrown 41 touchdowns to tight ends or running backs, which is the most in the ACC. That includes a 4-yard touchdown pass to tailback Omarion Hampton tonight.
• Carolina’s third-quarter scoring drive which ended in a 56-yard TD pass from Drake Maye to Tez Walker was its ninth straight touchdown drive of 75 or more yards.
• Miami’s 92-yard TD drive in the second quarter was the longest by an opponent this season.
• Miami led 17-14 at the half. This was the first time UNC trailed at the half this season. It is the first time that the Tar Heels trailed at the half in a win since defeating Virginia in 2022.
• Drake Maye completed 17 of 33 for 274 yards. He has thrown for at least 200 yards in all six games this season and all 20 games as a starter.
• Maye threw a season-high four touchdowns, his fifth career game with four or more passing touchdowns. The UNC record is six by Sam Howell.
• This was Maye’s 10th career game with three or more touchdown passes without an interception.
• Maye’s 56-yard TD pass to Tez Walker was the fifth-longest of Maye’s career and second-longest of the season. It was Maye’s 10th career pass of 50 or more yards.
• Maye has thrown at least one touchdown pass in five of the six games this season and 17 of 20 career starts. He has thrown multiple touchdowns in 15 of 20 starts.
• Maye has passed for 1,902 yards through six games this season; last year he totaled 1,903 yards in the first six games.
• This was the eighth time Maye has accounted for four or more touchdowns. Marquise Williams had 10 and Sam Howell nine.
• Maye has thrown 51 touchdown passes in 20 starts over the last two seasons.
• Maye became the sixth Tar Heel to accumulate 7,000 career total yards. He has 7,256 yards. Bryn Renner is fifth with 8,128.
• Omarion Hampton rushed 24 times for 197 yards. It was his second 100-yard game this season and the fourth of his career.
• Hampton scored his fifth rushing touchdown this season, the most by a Tar Heel through the first six games since Javonte Williams in 2020.
• Hampton caught his second career touchdown pass.
• Tez Walker made six receptions for 132 yards and three touchdowns.
• This was Walker’s fourth career multiple reception TD game, and his first multiple reception TD game against a Power Five opponent.
• Walker is the first Tar Heel with three receiving TDs in a game since Josh Downs against Wake Forest in 2022. He is the 16th Tar Heel to have three or more touchdown receptions in a game and the first to accomplish that against Miami.
• Walker had a 20-yard run and 56-yard touchdown reception making him the first Tar Heel to have a 50-yard reception and a 20-yard rush in a game since Johnny White against Clemson in 2011. White had a 51-yard reception and a 26-yard rush.
• Cedric Gray led UNC with 10 tackles, including a tackle for a loss, and had an interception and a fumble recovery. In his three career games against Miami, he has made 29 tackles, three interceptions, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble. He made his 300h career tackle in the game.
• Gray is the first Tar Heel to recover a fumble and make an interception in a game since Jaquarius Conley against Virginia Tech in 2021. Gray’s third-quarter interception was his first of the season and the fifth of his career.
• Tom Maginness made his collegiate debut. He finished the game with six punts for 230 yards. This ties the record for most punts in a Tar Heel debut since Tom Sheldon had six punts in his Carolina against Georgia in 2016 (records only until 2000).
• Place-kicker Noah Burnette made field goals of 34 and 23 yards in the fourth quarter. Burnette is 9 for 9 in field goals this season.
• The Tar Heels were charged with a season-high 14 penalties for 147 yards. Previous highs this season were seven penalties vs. South Carolina and 60 yards in penalties against App State.
