North Carolina vs. Clemson Postgame Notes

Omarion Hampton has rushed for 100 yards in six straight games. He is the first Tar Heel to rush for 100 yards in six straight games since Don McCauley rushed for 100-yards in eight straight in 1970. Cedric Gray passed Rondell Jones on North Carolina’s all-time tackles leader list and is now 8th in Tar Heel history with a total of 352 career tackles.
• Carolina falls to 8-3. Clemson improves to 7-4.
• Mack Brown is 283-147-1, including 107-71-1 in 15 seasons as head coach of the Tar Heels.
• The Tar Heels are 57-25 as a ranked team in 15 seasons under Brown.
• The second time this season that the Tar Heels scored fewer than 30 points. The only other time this season was against Virginia.
• Omarion Hampton's fumble on the opening drive was his first of the season. He previously had the most rushing attempts without a fumble in FBS.
• Prior to Hampton’s fumble, the Tar Heels were 13 of 13 in the red zone with 12 touchdowns and one field goal. That was the first red zone trip without points for the Tar Heels since the Virginia game.
• Carolina held Clemson to a three and out on their first possession. The Tar Heels have only allowed points on their opponents' opening drive in two out of their 11 games, which was against Pitt and Virginia. Last year, the Tar Heels allowed points on the opening drive in eight out of their 14 games.
• Drake Maye was 16 of 36 for 209 yards and one passing touchdown.
• Maye has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 10 of the 11 games this season and 21 of 24 career starts.
• Maye has thrown for over 200 yards in 25 career starts. He is tied with Bryn Renner for second most 200 yard passing games in Tar Heel history. Clemson’s defense held their opponents to under 200 passing yards in six straight games entering Saturday.
• Maye's first-quarter 33-yard touchdown to J.J. Jones put him in a tie for fourth place in career passing touchdowns at Carolina with 61.
• Hampton rushed for 178 yards on 19 carries and scored two touchdowns. He has 15 rushing TDs and 1,414 rushing yards in 11 games this season.
• Hampton has the most rushing yards by a Tar Heel against Clemson since Mike Voight had 161 in 1976.
• Hampton is only the fourth Tar Heel to rush for over 150 yards against Clemson and the first since Voight in 1976.
• Hampton now has seven 100-yard games this season and nine in his career. He is the first Tar Heel to have seven 100-yard rushing games in a season since Giovani Bernard in 2011.
• Hampton is the seventh Tar Heel to ever have seven 100-yard rushing games in a season.
• Entering Saturday, Hampton was second FBS in rushing yards.
• Hampton is only the fifth UNC running back to rush for over 100 yards against Clemson since 1984. He is the first Tar Heel to achieve this feat since Darian Durant in 2003. Hampton’s season rushing totals jumped over six former Tar Heels against the tigers. He moved from the ninth most rushing yards in a Carolina season to third.
• Hampton is the first Tar Heel running back to have five games with multiple rushing touchdowns in a season since Javonte Williams in 2020.
• Since the start of the 2022 season, Cedric Gray has led the power five in tackles. Against Clemson, he added eight tackles, bringing his new total to 249 tackles.
• Gray now has 104 tackles on the season. Gray is the first ACC player to achieve 100-plus tackles in three straight seasons since UVA’s Micah Kiser and Quin Blanding both did it from 2015 to 2017.
