North Carolina’s 1997 football campaign was filled with classic examples of why it took coach Mack Brown so long to get over the national hump. First of all, Brown made the mistake of going with Oscar Davenport under center in place of Chris Keldorf, who a year earlier set numerous UNC passing records and was the better player.
