Western N.C. mourns loss of another Streater who died too young
Posted Jun 23, 2009
Steve Streater passed away last week at age 50. He was the best and most athletic high-school baseball player I've ever seen and was gifted enough to play defensive back and punt for North Carolina before signing a deal with the Washington Redskins. And on the drive home after inking a deal to play in the NFL in 1981, his car skidded on wet pavement and a broken neck left him paralyzed. Steve was the second-best athlete in his family that included three brothers who played college football.
