No. 4 North Carolina closed the first half with a 32-3 run to effectively end N.C. Central's hopes of an upset on Wednesday, ultimately defeating the Eagles 89-42 at the Smith Center. Marcus Ginyard led all scorers in tying his career-high with 17 points. North Carolina (2-0) entered Wednesday’s county-border battle against N.C. Central (0-1) favored by 46 points, but for nearly eight minutes, the Eagles kept this contest competitive.
