Norfolk Christian’s James McAdoo on Thursday was named Gatorade Virginia Boys Basketball Player of the Year. McAdoo, a junior who has committed to play at North Carolina, is the first South Hampton Roads player to win the honor since Indian River’s Alonzo Mourning in 1988. McAdoo recently led Norfolk Christian to the Virginia Independent Schools Division II state championship. A 6-foot-8, 215-pounder, he averaged 22.5 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.
