State, UNC suffer key running back injuries

Senior Ryan Houston, who redshirted last season because of his role in the NCAA’s investigation of UNC, is scheduled to undergo surgery Thursday after fracturing his shoulder blade during Saturday’s spring game. Ironically, UNC coach Butch Davis addressed the issue Saturday when asked why he held another running back — Giovanni Bernard — out of the game. Bernard missed all last season because of a knee injury.
