Roy Williams gives Jackson Simmons a scholarship
Posted Apr 28, 2011
Smoky Mountain senior Jackson Simmons has been given a scholarship to play college basketball for North Carolina. Tar Heels coach and Western North Carolina native Roy Williams informed Simmons of the scholarship Thursday night. The Citizen-Times All-WNC Player of the Year initially accepted a preferred walk-on spot with the defending ACC regular-season champions in August. “Jackson is excited. But at the same time, when he committed to (the Tar Heels) in August, he did it unconditionally,” Simmons’ father, Si, said today.
