North Carolina had plenty of opportunities to leave Lane Stadium with a win on Thursday night, but the Tar Heels came up short one too many times, giving the Hokies their eighth straight season of at least 10 wins. Virginia Tech's defense -- save for one big bust in the secondary in the fourth quarter that led to North Carolina's final touchdown -- was consistently good.
