With a 4-1 league record, N.C. State entered the midweek set of games as part of a three-way tie for first place in the ACC, sitting a half-game ahead of North Carolina (3-1). The Wolfpack hadn't held at least a share of first so late in the conference schedule since 1989, when it won the regular-season title with a 10-4 mark.
