Barth FGs, Yates TD pass lead North Carolina past Maryland

Connor Barth continued a near-perfect season and quarterback T.J. Yates managed the game well enough. But it was defense that helped North Carolina keep its hopes of a bowl game alive. Barth kicked three field goals to improve to 13-for-14 this year and Yates threw a touchdown pass to Hakeem Nicks to lead the Tar Heels to a 16-13 victory over the Terrapins, but first-year coach Butch Davis saw another key aspect of the victory.
