UNC Football Recruiting Week in Review
Posted May 8, 2012
Here's a look back at the past week in UNC football recruiting:
-Incoming freshman QB Kanler Coker discussed his official visit to UNC in his latest journal entry for Inside Carolina.
-Apparently, there were rumors that 2013 offensive tackle commit R.J. Prince might decommit. Prince has put those rumors to rest and remains firm to UNC.
-2013 wide receiver and UNC commit Jordan Fieulleteau is doing some recruiting of his own. One of his targets? 2013 QB John O'Korn.
-The Nike Football Training Camp rolled into Charlotte last week and was attended by several UNC recruits. Among the Tar Heel commits attending were Jordan Fieulleteau, Desmond Lawrence, Ryan Switzer, Korrin Wiggins and Khris Francis. 2014 athlete Braxton Berrios from Raleigh, NC (Leesville) was named the MVP and is very similar to Switzer in size and athleticism.
-Ryan Switzer and 4-star Charlotte linebacker Peter Kalambayi were nominated for Nike's new 2012 training competition "The Opening."
-18 N.C. high school players were nominated for the US Army All American Bowl. UNC commits R.J. Prince, Ryan Switzer and Desmond Lawrence were among those selected, along with numerous current UNC targets.
-Although UNC's scheduled spring scrimmage in Charlotte was rained out last month, Larry Fedora plans to continue the new tradition in Greensboro next spring. This is a great recruiting tool.
-2013 dual-threat QB Mitch Trubisky has been receiving a lot of interest lately and has UNC in his top-4. Trubisky hopes to make his decision during fall camp.
-Speaking of decisions, 2013 WR Corey Cooper from Raleigh (Millbrook) has set an announcement date of July 7th.
-2013 DE Tyquan Lewis says that he has no favorites, although former UNC interim coach Everett Withers is pursuing him hard at his new school, Ohio State.
-A teammate of 4-star offensive lineman and UNC recruit Tyrone Crowder from Rockingham, NC (Richmond County) says that Crowder is leaning towards Clemson or South Carolina.
-Finally, New Jersey 3-star OG Brad Henson has received a UNC offer and visited UNC and NC State over the weekend.
That's it for this week. Please feel free to submit your feedback or questions for next week's recap.
