It was a long trip for Mentor on Friday night heading out to Erie (Pa.) McDowell for a nonconference headliner. Long, emotional, swinging on the pendulum — it had everything you can imagine. The best news from a Cardinals' point of view, it had a winning feel. Mitch Trubisky passed for 411 yards and ran for 86, including the go-ahead 1-yard touchdown with 25 seconds remaining as Mentor staved off a yeoman's effort from running back Khyre Drayer and McDowell, 34-27.
