There is virtually no connection between playing ability and coaching ability, as the list below lays bare. To wit: 45. Roy Williams, North Carolina -- Williams played basketball at T.C. Roberson High School in Asheville, NC, earning all-region honors before attending North Carolina and playing as a non-scholarship player on the freshman team under Bill Guthridge in 1968-69.
