The night before they played Air Force in the first round of the NCAA tournament in 2004, North Carolina's players shaved their heads in solidarity-a way to show, idea-man Melvin Scott later said, "that we're together and focused." Competing in their first NCAA tournament game in three years, the sixth-seeded Tar Heels needed that togetherness and focus to rally to a 63-52 victory.
