Day 1 of the Nike EYBL in Hampton, Va., took place Saturday, bringing together some of the nation’s best prep basketball players for another stop on the circuit’s high-profile tour around the country. News from around the EYBL from Day 1: Malik Newman is the nation’s No. 1 player, according to Rivals.com. He played like it in his team’s second game of the day, dropping 33 points for the Jackson Tigers in a win over Northwest XPress.
