Jeff Schoettmer Stabilizing the Middle

Jeff Schoettmer arrived in Chapel Hill three years ago as an unheralded walk-on from Dallas, Tex. The 6-foot-2, 233-pound middle linebacker now enters his fourth season as UNC’s leading returning tackler. Following the Tar Heels’ 2013 spring practice, associate head coach for defense Vic Koenning highlighted Schoettmer, who played ram in 2012, as a strong candidate for playing time at linebacker.
