Former Tar Heel great Phil Ford reflects on Dean Smith

Former UNC basketball great Phil Ford continues to heed the words of the late coach Dean Smith. And that’s why the three-time All-American and Olympic gold medalist didn’t mind saying that he had dinner “compliments of Coach Dean Smith” after the hall of fame coach posthumously sent $200 checks to all his former lettermen. “It was an incredible gesture,” Ford said Wednesday before coaching the ACC Barnstorming Tour team at East Duplin High School.
