UNC Basketball Recruiting Week In Review
Posted Sep 14, 2015
The Fall recruiting period began on Wednesday, 9/9 when college coaches could begin visiting recruits. Here's a look back at some of the news and notes regarding
UNC basketball recruiting.
Roy Williams paid visits to 2016 UNC center commit Tony Bradley in Bartow, Florida and 2016 combo guard Seventh Woods in Hammond, SC on Wednesday 9/9. Woods took an official visit to Georgetown over the weekend, but UNC and South Carolina appear to be the leaders at this point. Woods will take his official visit to UNC along with 2016 5-star power forward Harry Giles the weekend of September 25.
Roy Williams will take the first ever overseas recruiting trip in his UNC tenure to visit 2016 Finnish power forward Lauri Markkanen on September 28. Markkanen holds a scholarship offer from the Tar Heels and will officially visit Utah the weekend of October 11th, North Carolina the 13th and 14th, and Arizona the 16th and 17th.
UNC assistant coach C.B. McGrath was on hand Wednesday 9/9 in Concord, NC for an open-gym evaluation of 2018 point guard Leaky Black. Here a a few of Black's highlights.
2016 4-star shooting guard Brandon Robinson had an in-home visit with Roy Williams on Thursday 9/10 and set up an official visit to UNC for the weekend of 9/18. Robinson, who holds a UNC offer, visited Georgia Tech over the weekend after cancelling a scheduled visit to Maryland.
Roy Williams paid an in-home visit to 2017 5-star power forward Wendell Carter on Thursday, 9/10.
2016 5-star shooting guard Rawle Alkins has transferred to Word of God Academy in Raleigh, NC for his senior season. And although Alkins holds a scholarship offer from UNC, Word of God coach Brian Clifton has shown a strong public dislike of Roy Williams. Despite this, however, Alkins visited UNC on Sunday 9/13 and met with the coaching staff.
2016 5-star small forward Miles Bridges will officially visit UNC the weekend of October 23 provided the Heels make his final 3 schools which he will announce Monday. Bridges visited Michigan State over the weekend for the football game between MSU and Oregon. Bridges, from Flint, MI, reportedly plans to visit Michigan on October 10, but many analysts feel that it's a two-team race between MSU and Kentucky for his services.
UNC remains in contention for 2016 4-star power forward Javin DeLaurier as he recently cut his list to 6 schools. DeLaurier is tentatively scheduled to receive an in-home visit from Roy Williams on Wednesday 9/23. DeLaurier visited Texas over the weekend after visiting Notre Dame last weekend. He is also considering visiting Princeton and Stanford while targeting a November commitment.
