Tar Heels recover from a wobbly start to outlast Cavaliers
Posted Jan 11, 2007
UNC discovered last night how perilous life at the top can be but survived the first threat to its No. 1 national ranking by outlasting Virginia 79-69. Given big lifts after halftime by Marcus Ginyard and Quentin Thomas off the bench, North Carolina generated a 20-5 scoring run that wiped out Virginia's lead. North Carolina led 63-52 when the run was over and carried a 71-58 advantage into the final 4:03 and Virginia couldn't mount a comeback.
