Losing six games by seven points or less in a 4-8 season did nothing to dampen enthusiasm at North Carolina, where second-year coach Butch Davis has players believing they're on the verge of a breakthrough. There's no doubt that North Carolina has impressive talent at the skill positions. The often-spectacular Hakeem Nicks, speedy Brandon Tate and steady Brooks Foster form a wide receiving corps that might be the ACC's best.
