Former North Carolina and Wake Forest coach Bill Dooley, who needed emergency surgery this spring to repair an artery aneurysm, tried to blend into the Durham Civic Center audience of more than 300 college football fans attending the annual luncheon. State coach Chuck Amato spotted Dooley in the audience and welcomed him before they joined Ted Roof of Duke and Rod Broadway of N.C. Central on the stage.
