Former UNC basketball assistant says 2002 season was a learning experience
Posted Feb 25, 2010
The 2002 season in Chapel Hill was the worst season in program history. The Heels were an established juggernaut in college hoops. They had gone to 27 straight NCAA Tournaments and hadn't had a losing season since 1962, Dean Smith's first year as coach. Doug Wojcik saw Carolina turn around and win 19 games the following season, but that was it for Matt Doherty and his staff. In the end, there is no easy way to get through a difficult season.
