So can Derrick Phelps, but he was a much harder sell on this coaching gig than Reeves was. Even in his Tar Heel days, Phelps would hear that he had a future in coaching. He was a natural floor leader, and the experience would translate; that's what people always said. But only after a brief three-game stint in the NBA (with the Sacramento Kings in 1995) and a 12-year foreign league career did he think about considering coaching this summer.
