Doherty Shifts Focus
Posted Jun 9, 2006
Matt Doherty was hired as SMU's head basketball coach on April 24 and replaces Jimmy Tubbs, who was fired after a pair of losing seasons along with some NCAA violations. There are many tasks at hand for Doherty that include improving on last season's 13-16 record and getting the Mustangs to the NCAA Tournament, where they haven't been since 1993. The most important job might be re-establishing ties with the Dallas Independent School District, as Tubbs was a popular man with its constituents.
